Go raibh míle maith agaibh do na daltaí sóisearacha agus sinsearacha go léir a ghlac páirt sa Tráth na gCeist, agus comhghairdeas mór leis na buaiteoirí! Rinne seisear daltaí ionadaíocht thar ceann na scoile sa Chaint Phoiblí chomh maith, agus táimid thar a bheith bródúil astu as ucht a gcuid iarrachtaí. Maith sibh go léir! Clár iontach oibre! 👏 With SnaG officially wrapped up for another year, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Conradh na Gaeilge for organizing such fantastic activities for our school. A massive thank you to all of our junior and senior students who took part in the Tráth na gCeist (Table Quiz), and a huge congratulations to our winners! We also had six talented students represent the school in the Irish Public Speaking competition—we are incredibly proud of how they represented Davitt College. Well done to everyone involved! Davitt College student Lauren Dunne, representing Castlebar Tennis Club, was officially presented with her Mayo Young Sports Stars of the Year Award. Lauren received the prestigious accolade from Fionnuala Tolster of The Connaught Telegraph at the annual awards ceremony, with the category proudly sponsored by the Mayo Credit Union. This award serves as a fantastic local acknowledgement of Lauren’s exceptional dedication, talent, and individual sporting excellence on the competitive circuit. 🏃 Senior Cycle • Sports Science & LCPE LCPE: Movement Analysis & Injury Screening 6 March 2025 As part of their rigorous Leaving Certificate Physical Education (LCPE) studies, our 5th Year students regularly visit the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. These dedicated sessions are designed to seamlessly bridge classroom theory with elite, real-world sports practice. Session Highlights: Professional Fitness Testing: Assessing baseline physical metrics using high-level sports science protocols. Movement Analysis: Evaluating biomechanics and technique to optimise sporting performance. Injury Screening: Identifying physiological risks and understanding preventative conditioning strategies. A sincere thank you to Daniel Forde (Connacht GAA Strength & Conditioning) and Oran Hester from Connacht GAA for their continued expert work and guidance with our LCPE groups. TY Leaders Shine at FAI Schools Primary 5s Regional Qualifiers

⚽ Youth Sport • TY Leadership & Officiating TY Leaders Shine at FAI Schools Primary 5s Regional Qualifiers 14 February 2025 Fourteen of our fantastic Transition Year students had a highly productive, busy, and thoroughly enjoyable week assisting at the FAI Mayo 5-a-side Primary Schools competition. It was another monumental week for the tournament, which saw over 750 energetic primary school students competing across the intense West and South Mayo Regional Qualifiers. Our TY students took a central role on the sidelines and pitches, ensuring matches ran smoothly, officiating fixtures, and supporting the young players throughout the days. 🤝 Community & Club Partnership A tournament of this massive scale succeeds entirely on collaboration, and a huge well-done goes to all the participating players, dedicated teachers, and schools who traveled to make the qualifiers so competitive. Special thanks are extended to the TY cohorts from Davitt College, Sacred Heart School, and Rice College for their brilliant leadership and peer support. We also want to give a massive shout-out to Westport United FC and the Mayo Football League for acting as superb, welcoming hosts and providing top-tier facilities for the games. 📅 What’s Next? The regional action isn’t slowing down! The tournament shifts focus immediately after the weekend, moving directly on to the East Mayo Regional Qualifiers, which kick off from Tuesday onward. 🏀 School Sport • Boys Basketball Mixed Fortunes in Easkey Clash: First-Years Secure Season Open Win 13 February 2025 It was a day of high drama and mixed results on the hardwood as Davitt College went head-to-head with Coláiste Iascaigh. The First-Year boys kicked off their campaign in spectacular fashion, grinding out a hard-fought 19-13 victory to claim their first win of the season. The squad showed brilliant defensive structure and composure under the rim to close out the game and get their league run off to the perfect start. Second-Years Fall Just Short in Nail-Biter Immediately after, the Second-Year boys took to the court in what turned out to be an absolute thriller. In a classic, end-to-end battle where every single possession counted, the Davitt side unfortunately ended up on the wrong side of a narrow 19-23 scoreline. Despite the sting of the close defeat, the performance showcased a massive work ethic and plenty of tactical promise for the upcoming fixtures. A huge thank you to Mr. McTavish and Mr. O’Connor for coaching the boys and driving the basketball program forward! 🏀🔴🟢👏 ×

Fifty Senior Graphics Students Awarded University Level 6 Certificates in 21st Century STEM Skills

🎓 Academic Excellence • STEM & University Certification Fifty Senior Graphics Students Awarded University Level 6 Certificates in 21st Century STEM Skills 5 November 2024 The entire Davitt College community is incredibly proud of fifty of our Senior students who were officially awarded their Certificate in 21st Century STEM Skills from the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) Sligo. Our students successfully completed three intensive “STEM Passport for Inclusion” workshops facilitated by industry experts and academic mentors during their Transition Year cycle. Having submitted their high-level technical assignments, they have now officially qualified with an NFQ Level 6 Certificate in STEM Skills, fully recognised by the National Framework of Qualifications. Pioneering STEM Inclusion & Industry Pathways This national initiative, led by Dr Katriona O’Sullivan at Maynooth University and jointly backed by Microsoft Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland, directly addresses gender inequalities in technical fields. By combining a formal university qualification with structured mentoring from industry role models, the programme provides an elite pathway for students to progress to third-level education and secure high-value STEM qualifications. We wish to extend our sincere thanks to Mr David Nevin (TY Co-ordinator) and our Career Guidance Department for supporting and encouraging our engineering and graphics students on this prestigious academic journey.
