🏃‍♂️ Cross Country • North Connacht Excellence The Forest Park Standard: Elite Sportsmanship at Lough Key 15 January 2026 While individual medals and podium finishes are always fantastic milestones, true sporting excellence is measured by character, team culture, and the way athletes represent their school crest. Today, our distance running panel traveled to the beautiful trails of Lough Key Forest Park for the highly anticipated North Connacht Cross Country Competition. Following on from our immensely proud campaign on the exact same turf on January 16th, 2025, today’s outing proved that Davitt College has established a stellar tradition of excellence in Roscommon. Setting the Bar for Character and Camaraderie Against a massive field of elite young runners from across the region, our students delivered an incredible, high-energy sporting performance over the challenging winter course. Team Culture on the Trails: 🏃‍♂️ Cheering on teammate sprints at the home straight. ⛺ Helping out actively at the team camp setup. 🤝 Welcoming finishing competitors across the line with true respect. Cross country running is a grueling, solitary discipline once you step past the starting line, but today our athletes proved they run as one collective unit. The entire management and staff of Davitt College want to extend a massive well done to each and every student who took part today. Your athletic grit on the mud was brilliant, but your integrity and impeccable sportsmanship are what made you a true credit to yourselves, your families, and your school. ×

🏃 Athletics Ireland • Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals Elite Form: Niamh Moran Shines at Connacht Finals in Loughrea 22 February 2024 • Bushfield, Loughrea The 2024 cross country season has officially hit its peak flight, and our distance athletes have once again proven themselves against the very best in the West. Following a superb collective outing at the regional qualifiers in Ballymote on January 30th—where the entire school panel put in a fantastic shift—our qualifying athletes travelled to Bushfield in Loughrea yesterday for a highly anticipated Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals. Running Up a Grade: An Outstanding Top-10 Finish The standout performance of the championship came from the exceptionally talented Niamh Moran. Representing Davitt College and competing alongside her clubmates at Castlebar AC, Niamh faced an immense athletic challenge by running out of her age grade to test herself against an older, highly experienced field. ⏱️ 8th Place in Connacht Showing mature tactical pacing, incredible lung capacity, and absolute grit on the heavy Bushfield turf, Niamh delivered an unbelievable race to cross the line inside the top 10. 🚀 Running Out of Grade Stepping up in both distance and competition level against an older field, this top-10 provincial result is a massive statement of her elite dedication and growth. A Credit to the School The endurance and physical toughness required to compete at this level are immense. The entire sports department and school community at Davitt College extend our huge congratulations to Niamh on a fantastic race, and well done to everyone who took part across the entire winter campaign. 🏃‍♀️ Cross Country • Connacht Schools Finals Provincial Silver! Niamh Moran Leads the Charge at the Connacht Finals 22 February 2023 • Connacht Athletics The winter training miles have truly paid off today on the provincial stage. A massive congratulations to all our elite distance runners who proudly wore the Davitt College crest at the Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals! Against a highly competitive field of top-flight athletes from across the West, our students left everything out on the course, culminating in an extraordinary individual podium finish. The Road to the Finals: Conquering Ballymote The foundation for today’s success was laid back on January 26th at the regional qualifiers in Ballymote. It was a fantastic day for the school sports department, with a large contingent of our running panel putting on a clinical display of tactical racing and teamwork. Their strong individual positions packed the fields beautifully, booking a massive wave of qualification spots for today’s provincial decider. Niamh Moran Claims Brilliant Connacht Silver The individual performance of the day belonged to the phenomenal Niamh Moran. Competing in a relentless, fast-paced Junior Girls race, Niamh tracked the lead pack with immense composure and precision. When the pressure turned up in the closing stages of the race, she showed incredible athletic grit and an explosive finishing kick to cross the line in a magnificent 2nd place overall. This well-deserved Connacht Silver Medal highlights a spectacular cross country campaign for Niamh, whose running has gone from strength to strength with Castlebar AC all season long. Proud of the Entire Panel While Niamh takes home the silverware, the management and staff of Davitt College want to express our immense pride in every single student who lined up on the starting grid today. Cross country running demands a rare level of mental toughness and physical endurance, and our students proved once again that they have it in abundance. Their journey to the national stage is a story of sheer resilience, brilliant teamwork, and the type of character that defines our student body.
