Chess Club returns to Davitt College for 2026/27 A Strong Opening Move There were plenty of competitive games, impressive concentration and some early signs of the talent that will represent Davitt College in tournaments during the year ahead. Chess Club gives students the opportunity to develop their skills, challenge different opponents and enjoy some friendly competition during the school week. ⚽ U19 Boys Soccer U19 Boys Awarded Opening Victory September 2026 Davitt College’s U19 Boys have begun their 2026/27 soccer campaign with a 3–0 victory over Seamount College, Kinvara. 🏐 Junior Girls GAA Junior Girls Begin Campaign with Impressive Victory 22 September 2026 Davitt College’s Junior Girls GAA team opened their 2026/27 campaign in style, recording a strong 2-11 to 1-2 victory over St. Brendan’s, Belmullet. The girls put together an excellent team performance, with scores coming from across the side as Davitt built an impressive tally over the course of the game. Betty Gibbons found the net twice for Davitt, while Clara Kelly led the points tally with five. Jenny McHale and Roisin Moran added two points each, with Ruby Murrihy also getting on the scoresheet. The team produced an excellent performance in their opening game of the new season, playing some brilliant football and working hard for one another throughout the match. It was a very encouraging start to the campaign and a well-deserved result for the group as they begin another busy season of schools GAA action. Anna achieved the prestigious grade through Mango Martial Arts Academy, marking an important milestone in a journey that has demanded far more than technical ability alone. Reaching Black Belt level represents sustained commitment, resilience and the determination to continue improving through countless hours of training. 🏆 Historic Sporting Achievement End of the 75-Year Wait: Mayo’s Historic Triumph 27 July 2026 Mayo are waking up as All-Ireland senior football champions for the first time in 75 years following a stirring second-half comeback to defeat Kerry 1-20 to 1-17 in yesterday’s final at Croke Park. A crucial goal from Darragh Beirne right after the restart shifted the momentum, helping Mayo weather a late surge from the Kingdom and bring Sam Maguire home to the west. Here in Castlebar, the historic triumph carries an extra-special significance for Davitt College. Our school community is bursting with pride seeing Davitt alumni Diarmuid O’Connor take centre stage in the celebrations. The excitement hits even closer to home with Colm Lynch – who just finished up at Davitt College last year and serves as the Mayo U20 captain – joining the senior squad in the thick of the historic celebrations. Adding to the wonderful family and school connection, Colm’s mother, our very own teacher Ms Siobhán Lynch, shared in the unforgettable magic alongside Colm and the cup. From the corridors of Davitt College to the hallowed turf of Croke Park, this is a summer none of us will ever forget. We are absolutely flying with pride today as we celebrate a truly historic week of international selection, national podiums, and record-breaking performances from our elite athletes. Our standout thrower, Isabella (Bella) Kearney, has officially been selected to represent Ireland for the second consecutive year, booking her place on the national squad for the upcoming SIAB Schools International Athletics Championship at the Mary Peters Track in Belfast! The 2026 Campaign: From Sligo to the Provincial Peak This spectacular international call-up is the ultimate culmination of an athletic campaign that has seen our squad dominate the track and field all season long. The Sligo Statement (24 April): Our season ignited at Sligo ATU, where a fantastic, highly motivated panel of Davitt College students represented the school with immense pride, determination, and flawless sportsmanship, securing qualification slots across the board. The Connacht Finals Sweep (3 May): Moving onto Day 1 of the Connacht Schools Track & Field Championships in Sligo, our elite throwers put on a masterclass. Aisling Henderson launched a fantastic 30m throw to secure a brilliant Minor Hammer Silver Medal, while Isabella Kearney completely dominated the field, capturing Intermediate Hammer Gold with a massive throw over 52 meters to punch her ticket to the All-Irelands in Tullamore. Sligo ATU Gallery Conquering the Prestigious Tailteann Games That elite momentum brought three of our most dedicated young athletes—Clodagh Tunney, Benjamin Byrne-Dempsey, and Isabella Kearney—to the prestigious interprovincial Tailteann Games in Carlow on June 19th. This event brings together the absolute best U17 athletes in Ireland to battle for a spot on the international squad. Isabella Kearney delivered the performance of a lifetime in the hammer circle. Stepping into the ring under immense pressure, Isabella unleashed a sensational, explosive throw to claim the National Silver Medal—smashing her lifetime best to set a monumental new Personal Best (PB) of 54.33m!
