🌟 Leaving Certificate • Academic Excellence Davitt College Celebrates Outstanding Leaving Certificate Results for the Class of 2026 August 2026 • Davitt College Castlebar Davitt College is delighted to celebrate an exceptional set of Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied results achieved by the Class of 2026. The results reflect the hard work, commitment and determination of students throughout their time at Davitt College, supported by the dedication of their teachers, SNAs, staff and families. A particular highlight of this year’s results was the achievement of one exceptional student, Cian Nolan, who attained the maximum possible score of 625 points, an outstanding accomplishment and a source of great pride for the entire school community. >15% 500+ Points Achieved 500 points or more >50% 400+ Points Achieved 400 points or more 80% of students achieved over 300 points. 45% of Leaving Certificate Applied students achieved the highest grade of Distinction. The excellent Leaving Certificate Applied results are a particular source of pride for the school, with almost half of LCA students achieving a Distinction, the highest possible grade. This outstanding achievement reflects the dedication and commitment of the students and the staff who supported them throughout the programme. 🏆 International Martial Arts Event Davitt College Hosts the Irish International Taekwondo Tournament! 26 June 2026 The mats are down, the flags are raised, and the atmosphere is electric. We are absolutely delighted to officially welcome the Irish International Taekwondo Tournament 2026 to Davitt College! Over the coming days, our campus transforms into a buzzing hub of world-class martial arts action. We are incredibly proud to welcome talented athletes, dedicated coaches, supportive families, and international officials from right across Ireland and far beyond to Castlebar. A Celebration of Skill, Discipline & Sportsmanship This prestigious tournament promises to be an extraordinary showcase of speed, focus, and technical excellence. Watching competitors step onto the mats after months—and years—of unseen sacrifice is a true inspiration to our entire school community. To every single competitor preparing to line out: we wish you the absolute best of luck. May your hard work, sharp focus, and perseverance shine through in every round. Keeping an Eye on Our Local European Champions The tournament holds an extra special meaning for the school community this year. Coming right off the back of their historic medal hauls at the European Championships in Portugal last month, Davitt College’s own Ana Dobre and Chelsea Ward will be taking to the mats on home soil. A Word of Thanks A massive tournament like this doesn’t just happen. We want to extend a huge thank you to the brilliant team of organizers, volunteers, and instructors—including our local partners at Mango Martial Arts Academy—who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to bring an event of this scale to life. 🎨 Creative Schools Initiative Design Thinking in Action: 5th Year Artists Revitalise School Courtyard 27 May 2026 Davitt College’s 5th Year Art students have put design thinking directly into practice by transforming one of the school’s central courtyards with striking artistic flair. Embracing the core ethos of our Creative Schools journey, the students tackled the space as an architectural and visual design challenge – taking it from initial concept sketches to a vibrant, colourful mural that brightens the entire campus. Their hard work, generosity, and creative energy have been warmly praised across the school community. Special thanks go to Art teacher Ms. Joanne Hopkins and Creative Schools Coordinator Ms. Veronica Morley for guiding the project, as well as Albany Castlebar for generously sponsoring paint supplies. We successfully migrated from VSware in late May 2026. This foundational step was carried out in preparation for a full, comprehensive school release moving into the upcoming academic year, ensuring our entire community benefits from a more modern, efficient platform. What This Means for Parents and Guardians Detailed informational notices and setup instructions have been sent out to parents and guardians. The Tyro platform brings attendance tracking, assessment insights, and school communications together into one seamless digital experience. 🎸 Live Music Celebration • Creative School Davitt College Students Take the Stage for “The Rocky Road Sing Song” 1 May 2026 Performing Live with Damien Dempsey at the TF Royal Excitement reached a fever pitch at Davitt College on May 1st as over 70 students attended “The Rocky Road Sing Song” live music celebration at the TF Royal in Castlebar. In an unforgettable highlight for the school, five Davitt College students took to the main stage alongside renowned Irish singer-songwriter Damien Dempsey to perform “The Fields of Athenry” live in front of a massive audience of primary and secondary school students from across the country. Representing the vibrant musical pulse of our school, our performers did us proud on a national stage. Events like these highlight the power of creative expression in youth education—and prove exactly why we are proud to be a Creative School! ×

Silverware in Ballina: 4th Year Boys Crowned Division C Badminton Champions

🏸 Regional Badminton Success 4th Year Boys Crowned Division C Badminton Champions 29 April 2026 Dominant Court Displays Secure Regional Title A phenomenal day on the courts for our boys’ badminton squads as they traveled to Ballina to compete in the highly competitive Division C tournament. The standard of play was exceptionally high, but our panels rose to the challenge with fantastic grit and sharp tactical focus. A massive congratulations to our standout 4th Year boys’ team, who put on a clinical performance to be officially crowned Division C Winners—an incredible achievement for the school’s racket sports program! The entire school community is immensely proud of all our students for the immense work ethic, technical execution, and excellent sportsmanship they displayed throughout the entire tournament. Huge praise goes out to every player involved and to the mentors who guided them to regional success while representing Davitt College with total pride.

Jadotville Veteran Captain Noel Carey and Colonel Paul Carey Deliver United Nations Briefing

🕊️ UN Peacekeeping & History Jadotville Veterans Deliver United Nations Briefing 21 April 2026 Politics & Society Students Welcome Historic UN Peacekeepers Our Fifth and Sixth Year Politics and Society students had the extraordinary privilege of welcoming historic veteran Captain Noel Carey and his son, Colonel Paul Carey, to the social science lab. Captain Carey, one of the heroic figures who fought in the famous Siege of Jadotville during the 1961 United Nations mission in the Congo, delivered a deeply moving and powerful first-hand account of his experiences. He detailed the strategic decisions, human rights challenges, and immense resilience shown by A Company 35th Irish Battalion under siege. Following this historical perspective, Colonel Paul Carey provided an excellent, modern briefing on his own senior leadership roles within active UN peacekeeping operations. His talk gave students a direct look into how international treaties, conflict resolution strategies, and Ireland’s continuous contribution to global peace and security operate on the ground today. This was an inspiring, unforgettable opportunity for our classes to see textbook themes in global politics come to life through real-world defenders of human rights!
