🌸 Religious Education • International Women’s Day 2026 International Women’s Day: Pausing to Reflect and Celebrate 9 March 2026 To mark International Women’s Day, our students took part in a series of thoughtful and creative workshops during their Religious Education classes to celebrate the immense impact women have on our lives and global society every day. Moving beyond historical theory, students spent time reflecting deeply on the specific women who inspire them. This led to a highly engaging workshop where classes designed custom posters celebrating remarkable female figures from past and present, alongside the vital women in their own personal lives—including mothers, grandmothers, teachers, and mentors. It provided a wonderful, relaxed opportunity for our young people to pause, reflect, and show genuine appreciation for the positive leadership and care that surrounds them daily. ×

The service provides a vital space of solace for parents and families experiencing bereavement through pregnancy loss or the tragic death of a child. Our five student representatives stepped into this sensitive civic role with immense emotional maturity. By leading with quiet grace and deep compassion, they beautifully exemplified the core values of our department, supporting our wider community during their moments of greatest need. ×

💛 Community Wellbeing • World Mental Health Day Celebrating World Mental Health Day in the Community 10 October 2026 To mark World Mental Health Day, a group of our wonderful Davitt College students were absolutely delighted to be invited to a special community coffee morning! Hosted by the fantastic teams at the Mayo Mental Health Association and Mindspace Castlebar, the event took place in the welcoming and cozy surroundings of Brú Coffee Shop. ☕ It was a brilliant morning filled with warm drinks, great conversations, and most importantly, invaluable learning. Tying in perfectly with our SPHE modules on emotional wellbeing, our students gathered a wealth of practical information regarding the vital mental health supports and services available right here in County Mayo. 🧠🤝 Knowing how to access local support networks and breaking the stigma around mental health are huge parts of what we teach in the classroom, so bringing that learning out into the real world was truly inspiring. 🚲 Outdoor Education • Physical Wellbeing Outdoor Education: Cycling the Turlough Greenway 10 April 2025 Taking full advantage of the glorious sunshine, our First Year and Transition Year students recently took to the Turlough Greenway for a brilliant day out as part of our outdoor PE programme. Using our own fleet of Davitt College bicycles—perfectly timed for our National Bike Week activities—the students traded the sports hall for the open road. It was a fantastic way to build up some cardiovascular fitness while enjoying the fresh air and connecting with the beautiful local scenery. Of course, no proper Greenway excursion is complete without a well-deserved treat, and the day was brilliantly capped off with a stop for ice creams! A massive well done to everyone involved for bringing such great energy and making it such a fun, memorable trip. 🍦🚴‍♂️✨ ×

🏃 Senior Cycle • Sports Science & LCPE LCPE: Movement Analysis & Injury Screening 6 March 2025 As part of their rigorous Leaving Certificate Physical Education (LCPE) studies, our 5th Year students regularly visit the Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence. These dedicated sessions are designed to seamlessly bridge classroom theory with elite, real-world sports practice. Session Highlights: Professional Fitness Testing: Assessing baseline physical metrics using high-level sports science protocols. Movement Analysis: Evaluating biomechanics and technique to optimise sporting performance. Injury Screening: Identifying physiological risks and understanding preventative conditioning strategies. This prestigious status, awarded as part of the European Union Erasmus+ Programme (2021–2027), secures long-term funding for the school to participate in cross-border educational mobility and collaborative European projects. To celebrate this achievement, students and staff gathered for an official flag-raising ceremony. The Erasmus+ flag was hoisted at the front of the school building, where it now flies proudly as a symbol of the school’s global outlook and interconnected learning environment. 🕯️ Community Care • Transition Year Service Dignity and Compassion: Transition Year Students Support ATU Remembrance Service 26 February 2024 A group of our Transition Year students recently participated in a deeply poignant Remembrance Service held at ATU Castlebar. The annual ecumenical service was organised to offer comfort, solidarity, and support to local families who have experienced the devastating loss of a baby or a child. Representing the Davitt College community with exemplary maturity, our students took an active role in the candle ceremony and distributed custom prayer cards thoughtfully created by class 4A. Participating in an occasion of such profound local significance is an immense privilege, and our students are to be commended for the extraordinary dignity, empathy, and respect they demonstrated throughout the evening. 🕯️🕊️🤍 ×
