⛳ School Sport • Golf Championship Daisy Finnerty Captures 1st Place at Inter-Schools Tournament 12 May 2025 Brilliant stuff from third-year student Daisy Finnerty, who claimed 1st Place today at the Inter-Schools 9-Hole Golf Competition at Ballinrobe Golf Club. Competing in the highly competitive 16–19 age bracket, the former Junior Ladies Captain demonstrated her elite pedigree, carding a spectacular round to win the title outright. 🚲 Outdoor Education • Physical Wellbeing Outdoor Education: Cycling the Turlough Greenway 10 April 2025 Taking full advantage of the glorious sunshine, our First Year and Transition Year students recently took to the Turlough Greenway for a brilliant day out as part of our outdoor PE programme. Using our own fleet of Davitt College bicycles—perfectly timed for our National Bike Week activities—the students traded the sports hall for the open road. It was a fantastic way to build up some cardiovascular fitness while enjoying the fresh air and connecting with the beautiful local scenery. Of course, no proper Greenway excursion is complete without a well-deserved treat, and the day was brilliantly capped off with a stop for ice creams! A massive well done to everyone involved for bringing such great energy and making it such a fun, memorable trip. 🍦🚴‍♂️✨ ×

⛳ Transition Year Sport • Golf Academy Swing Academy: TYs Take to the Driving Range 3 October 2024 Our Transition Year sports blocks went mobile this week with dedicated golf tuition sessions out at the Castlebar Driving Range. Students picked up foundational tips on grip, posture, and swing mechanics. The session offered plenty of fun, great camaraderie, and saw a few hidden talents emerging with some seriously clean strikes down the range as students tried their hand at matching the pros. 🏐 Volleyball Ireland • U18 Galway Beach Tour Beach Volleyball Stars Battle to All-Ireland Final 18 May 2024 A massive well done to our dedicated club players from MVC and West Bolts who travelled down to compete on the sand in the prestigious U18 Galway Beach Tour. Special congratulations to Max and Yaz, who put in a massive physical shift across the tournament. The duo produced an incredible run of matches, fighting their way all the way to the grand final where they just fell short to a powerful Cork side in a thrilling, point-for-point finish. The event delivered perfect conditions for some massive hitting, clean fielding, and a brilliant competitive buzz across the entire year group. After a series of tight knockout rounds, the grand final came right down to the wire, showcasing tremendous teamwork, athletic grit, and great sportsmanship from all involved. 🏆 National Sports • Rounders Success National Medals Galore for Breaffy Rounders Stars 29 August 2023 • National Community Games Finals, Carlow A historic day of elite school and club crossover as Davitt College students dominated the podium at the National Community Games Finals in Carlow. Representing Breaffy, our third-year powerhouses Michael McTigue and Ronan Loftus, alongside first-year talent Ryan Jennings, delivered a flawless campaign to capture the National U15 Gold Medal. The medal haul didn’t stop there. In the U13 division, first-year students Jack Rice and Brian Loftus put on a clinical fielding display to secure a brilliant National Silver Medal. The group split their time between the Atlantic waves for an immersive surfing clinic and the fairways to sharpen their short-game skills on the golf course. ⚾ Community Games • National Finals Rounders Crews Take National Gold and Bronze 12 October 2022 • University of Limerick Davitt College students proved their pedigree on the national stage today during a spectacular showcase at the Community Games National Finals held at the University of Limerick. In the U15 championship, second-year athletes Ronan Loftus and Michael McTigue spearheaded a relentless Breaffy side to capture the ultimate prize—National Gold. Minutes later on the adjacent pitch, our first-year contingent of Ryan Reilly and Noah Lynn locked down the defensive lines to secure a hard-fought National Bronze Medal in the U13 tournament. It was a brilliant opportunity for the group to access expert coaching, pick up pro alignment tips, and refine their swing mechanics.
