🎵 Creative Arts & Politics • Transition Year Workshop ATU Sligo Politics Chair Dr Eamonn Furey Sparking Creative Songwriting Action with TY Teams! 23 February 2026 Our Transition Year spaces were absolutely buzzing with energy this week as we welcomed the brilliant Dr Eamonn Furey, Programme Chair of Sociology and Politics at ATU Sligo, to lead a fantastic, high-octane creative arts workshop! 🌟 As a proud Creative School, we love pushing the boundaries of traditional learning. Dr Furey guided our students through a fascinating deep-dive into music as a political art form, tracking how iconic tracks, rhythms, and poetry have historically been used to champion human rights, challenge systemic inequalities, and give a powerful voice to local communities on the global stage. Inspired by these legendary protest anthems, our students stepped up to the microphone themselves! Working in collaborative production teams, they brainstormed, drafted, and boldly performed their own original political lyrics—tackling modern global issues with incredible maturity, sharp wit, and rhythm. It was an invigorating showcase of musical creativity, confidence, and raw talent. Huge thanks to Dr Furey for inspiring our next generation of creative changemakers! 👏 ×

🤖 STEM & Robotics • ATU Galway Competition Davitt College Code and Drive at the VEX IQ Robotics Competition! 13 January 2026 Five brilliant first-year students from our Robotics & Coding Club proudly represented Davitt College at the VEX IQ Robotics Competition in ATU Galway today! It was an action-packed day filled with competitive coding, precision driving, and intense real-time problem-solving, where our students showcased outstanding teamwork and engineering skills on the big stage. The dedication, focus, and technical adaptability displayed by our junior team throughout the event were highly commended by the regional judges. Building the Future of Technology Activities like VEX IQ bridge classroom theory with hands-on mechanical and computational challenges, encouraging our first-years to tackle complex logic under pressure. The future of STEM at Davitt College is looking very bright indeed! A huge well done to all our first-year competitors. ×

🤖 STEM Innovation • Robotics & Engineering Robotics Workshop Sparks New After-School Engineering Initiatives 21 October 2024 A sincere thank you to Mr Hassan Dabbagh from ATU MakerSpace and the ATU Innovation Hubs team for facilitating an outstanding Robotics Workshop with a group of our enthusiastic Junior Cycle students this week. The interactive, hands-on session focused on mechatronics, circuit assembly, and basic automation logic, giving students an authentic taste of real-world design engineering. Armed with their new skills, our students and department mentors Mr Moylette and Mr Newcombe are officially ready to kick off the new Davitt College Robotics Club, which will begin running immediately after the midterm break. To help spread awareness throughout the school community, the students channeled their creativity into designing a series of vibrant, educational posters on this very valuable topic. Their work highlights excellent practical tips for saving energy both at home and at school, proving that small changes can make a massive difference. 🎄 Charity Fundraiser • Community Spirit Christmas Jumper Day Raises €724.94 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice 28 January 2021 • Davitt College Community Christmas is now a distant memory for us all! But we wanted to spread some of the festive cheer that was in the air towards the end of our last term with a look back at our fantastic Christmas Jumper Day. Our students and staff fully embraced the festive spirit, lighting up the school corridors in an incredible array of colorful, creative, and wonderfully festive knitwear. More importantly, the event was a massive fundraising success. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our school community, a grand total of €724.94 was raised for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. A sincere thank you to everyone who participated, brought in festive cheer, and donated to this incredibly worthy cause. Your generosity is greatly appreciated and will go a long way in supporting vital hospice services in our local region! 🎄🎅🦌✨💛👏 ×

🎄 Student Showcase • English & Wood Technology First Year Festive Showcase: Christmas Cards & Wood Technology Creations Davitt College First Year Showcase As the winter term drew to a close, our multi-talented First Year students were incredibly busy channeling their festive creativity across different departments to craft beautiful seasonal gifts for their family and friends. ✍️ Seasonal Poetry & Christmas Cards in 1E English In the English department, students in class 1E worked exceptionally hard to compose imaginative Christmas poems and design beautifully styled seasonal greeting cards. The students combined their developing literacy skills with artistic flair to create thoughtful, heartfelt messages for their loved ones, spreading plenty of holiday cheer through the written word. 🪚 Handcrafted Decorations in Wood Technology Meanwhile, the practical rooms were buzzing with activity as First Year students put their design and manufacturing skills to the test in Wood Technology. Over several weeks, the students carefully planned, cut, and sanded beautiful wooden Christmas decorations. These custom pieces make for wonderful, lasting keepsakes that will undoubtedly hold pride of place on Christmas trees at home for years to come. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, craftsmanship, and imagination demonstrated by our First Years across both disciplines! 🎄✨🎅🪵🎁👏 ×
