💡 Sustainability • Classroom Initiatives 1st Year Energy Saving Posters 21 May 2021 • Geography Department Our 1B and 1F classes have been incredibly busy learning about energy conservation and sustainability in their Geography lessons recently. To help spread awareness throughout the school community, the students channeled their creativity into designing a series of vibrant, educational posters on this very valuable topic. Their work highlights excellent practical tips for saving energy both at home and at school, proving that small changes can make a massive difference. 🎄 Student Showcase • English & Wood Technology First Year Festive Showcase: Christmas Cards & Wood Technology Creations Davitt College First Year Showcase As the winter term drew to a close, our multi-talented First Year students were incredibly busy channeling their festive creativity across different departments to craft beautiful seasonal gifts for their family and friends. ✍️ Seasonal Poetry & Christmas Cards in 1E English In the English department, students in class 1E worked exceptionally hard to compose imaginative Christmas poems and design beautifully styled seasonal greeting cards. The students combined their developing literacy skills with artistic flair to create thoughtful, heartfelt messages for their loved ones, spreading plenty of holiday cheer through the written word. 🪚 Handcrafted Decorations in Wood Technology Meanwhile, the practical rooms were buzzing with activity as First Year students put their design and manufacturing skills to the test in Wood Technology. Over several weeks, the students carefully planned, cut, and sanded beautiful wooden Christmas decorations. These custom pieces make for wonderful, lasting keepsakes that will undoubtedly hold pride of place on Christmas trees at home for years to come. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, craftsmanship, and imagination demonstrated by our First Years across both disciplines! 🎄✨🎅🪵🎁👏 ×

Davitt College Junior Cycle Assessment Policy 2020

🎓 Academic Policies • Junior Cycle 2020 Davitt College Junior Cycle Assessment Policy 2020 8 May 2020 • Davitt College Academic Council Due to the unprecedented disruption to the 2019/2020 academic year, the Department of Education and Skills has announced that the traditional Junior Cycle State Examinations will not take place this year. Instead, schools have been granted the autonomy to assess students locally. Davitt College has developed a comprehensive, whole-school approach to ensure our Third Year students are assessed fairly and accurately. 📊 How Will Students Be Assessed? The final grade for each subject will be calculated using a structured 90/10 split: 90% Recognition of Prior Learning Based on continuous coursework, in-class tests, and Classroom-Based Assessments (CBAs) completed between September 2018 and the school closure on 12th March 2020. 10% May 2020 Assessment A short, manageable assessment activity (maximum 30 minutes) to be completed remotely before 25th May 2020. 💚 We want to assure all parents and students that wellbeing remains our top priority during this challenging time. 📄 Official Policy Documentation For full details regarding the grading process, timelines, and guidelines for students, please download the official policy documents below: 📑 School-Based Assessment Policy 2020 Official Davitt College policy document governing Junior Cycle grading and metrics. 🎉 Junior Certificate • Academic Success 2016 Outstanding Junior Certificate Results at Davitt College 15 September 2016 Celebrations Across the School Community It was a morning filled with screams of excitement and delight at Davitt College on Wednesday, 15th September 2016, as our students finally received their highly anticipated Junior Certificate results. The outcomes across the board were truly excellent, with the vast majority of our students achieving honours in all of their subjects. Ms. Bernie Rowland, Davitt College Principal, was absolutely thrilled with the outcomes, highlighting the collective effort that goes into such a momentous day: “I am delighted with all of our students’ excellent results in the Junior Certificate. Our students worked very hard throughout the three years leading up to the Junior Certificate Examination, and today they reap the rewards of that hard work. 🎓 Junior Certificate • Academic Excellence 2015 Academic Excellence: Celebration and Success for Davitt College Students 11 September 2015 • Results Day 2015 There were screams of excitement and pure delight across the campus on Wednesday, 9th September 2015, as Davitt College students gathered to receive their highly anticipated Junior Certificate examination results. The results across the year group were absolutely excellent, with the vast majority of our hard-working students achieving top honours across all subjects, reflecting the high standard of academic dedication at the school. 🌟 Pride in Hard Work and Dedication Davitt College Principal, Ms. Bernie Rowland, was visibly thrilled as she congratulated the students on their landmark achievements: “I am delighted with all of our students’ excellent results in the Junior Certificate. Our students worked very hard throughout the three years leading up to the Junior Certificate Examination and today they reap the rewards of that hard work. 🎓 Academic Excellence • NUI Galway Awards National Recognition: Davitt College Students Honoured by NUI Galway for Elite Business Marks 26 February 2014 Davitt College, Castlebar, proudly celebrated further academic excellence as a group of top-performing young women were officially recognized by NUI Galway for their outstanding performance in the Junior Certificate state examinations. The students received prestigious certificates of achievement from the university’s J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics, an accolade reserved only for candidates who secured top-tier elite marks in higher level Business Studies across the country. This national recognition highlights the high caliber of academic dedication at the school, as well as the strength of our Business Studies department in fostering financial literacy, enterprise skills, and analytical thinking. Davitt College Students Honoured for Junior Certificate Business Excellence

Davitt College, Castlebar, celebrated further academic success as a group of top-performing students were presented with certificates of achievement from NUI Galway, recognizing their exceptional Junior Certificate results. The students recorded a Grade A in their Higher Level Business Studies Examination, placing them among an elite group of just 250 students from throughout Connacht to receive this prestigious regional honor. The presentations, held in association with the Business Studies Teachers Association of Ireland (BSTAI), were made at a special ceremony on the university campus, which was proudly attended by invited parents and school faculty.
