🇮🇪 Cultúr & Teanga • Seachtain na Gaeilge Seachtain na Gaeilge 2025: Tráth na gCeist & Caint Phoiblí! 20 March 2025 Agus SnaG thart do bhliain eile, ba mhaith linn ár mbuíochas a ghabháil le Conradh na Gaeilge as na himeachtaí iontacha go léir a d’eagraigh siad dúinn. Go raibh míle maith agaibh do na daltaí sóisearacha agus sinsearacha go léir a ghlac páirt sa Tráth na gCeist, agus comhghairdeas mór leis na buaiteoirí! Rinne seisear daltaí ionadaíocht thar ceann na scoile sa Chaint Phoiblí chomh maith, agus táimid thar a bheith bródúil astu as ucht a gcuid iarrachtaí. Maith sibh go léir! Clár iontach oibre! 👏 With SnaG officially wrapped up for another year, we would like to express our sincere thanks to Conradh na Gaeilge for organizing such fantastic activities for our school. A massive thank you to all of our junior and senior students who took part in the Tráth na gCeist (Table Quiz), and a huge congratulations to our winners! We also had six talented students represent the school in the Irish Public Speaking competition—we are incredibly proud of how they represented Davitt College. Well done to everyone involved! Prestigious Inaugural Joe McDonagh Award for Davitt College

🏆 National Award • Irish Culture & Heritage Prestigious Inaugural Joe McDonagh Award for Davitt College 17 October 2019 • ETBI National Awards The Education and Training Board of Ireland (ETBI) has proudly announced that Davitt College is this year’s joint winner of the ETBI National Joe McDonagh Award 2019. 🏆 Honouring a Champion of Irish Culture This prestigious award celebrates Irish culture, Irish heritage, and the Irish language. The late Joe McDonagh was a former Chief Executive Officer of Galway VEC and, more recently, the Chief Executive of the Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim Education and Training Board. He was an enthusiastic Gaeilgeoir and a passionate champion of education, the GAA, and Ireland’s rich cultural heritage. 🏅 A Winning Night in Athlone The official Awards Ceremony was held in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, on the 25th of September 2019. Students from Davitt College, accompanied by their teacher Mrs. Fiona O’Connor, were absolutely thrilled to receive the Joe McDonagh Trophy, alongside a €1,000 scholarship dedicated to the continued promotion of Irish culture, language, and heritage within the school. 🤝 Creative and Inclusive Storytelling The school’s winning entry comprised a beautifully crafted short film featuring a re-enactment of the famous Irish folklore legend, Cú Chulainn. This highly creative project was voiced over in Irish, subtitled in English, and fully signed using Irish Sign Language (ISL). ☘️ Irish Literature • Senior Cycle Enrichment Renowned Irish Poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill Hosts Special Reading at Davitt College 11 January 2013 • Davitt College Castlebar Davitt College was privileged to welcome Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill, one of the most prominent and celebrated figures in contemporary Irish literature, for an exclusive guest lecture and poetry reading. On November 23rd, our Fifth and Sixth Year Gaeilge students gathered on campus for a unique opportunity to experience a personal reading of Nuala’s celebrated work, ‘Mo Ghrá-Sa (Idir Lúibíní)’. 📚 Syllabus Enrichment As a core prescribed poem on the Leaving Certificate Irish syllabus, having the author herself deliver the text provided an unparalleled learning experience for our Senior Cycle students. 🖋️ Author Insights Nuala shared profound insights into the poem’s satirical layers, its modern commentary on traditional love poetry, and the creative processes that shape her writing in the Irish language. “Hearing the rhythm and nuance of the text read directly by the poet helped demystify the work for our Senior Cycle students. This firsthand encounter will undoubtedly benefit them immensely as they prepare for their upcoming Leaving Certificate examinations.” 📸 Guest Lecturer Showcase: Celebrated Irish poet Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill during her inspiring guest lecture for Fifth and Sixth Year Gaeilge students at Davitt College.
