🤖 STEM & Robotics • ATU Galway Competition Davitt College Code and Drive at the VEX IQ Robotics Competition! 13 January 2026 Five brilliant first-year students from our Robotics & Coding Club proudly represented Davitt College at the VEX IQ Robotics Competition in ATU Galway today! It was an action-packed day filled with competitive coding, precision driving, and intense real-time problem-solving, where our students showcased outstanding teamwork and engineering skills on the big stage. The dedication, focus, and technical adaptability displayed by our junior team throughout the event were highly commended by the regional judges. Building the Future of Technology Activities like VEX IQ bridge classroom theory with hands-on mechanical and computational challenges, encouraging our first-years to tackle complex logic under pressure. 🏀 U19 Basketball • Back-to-Back League Wins A Perfect Start: Davitt College U19 Basketball Secure Back-to-Back Wins 21 November 2025 Our U19 Boys Basketball team are flying high after wrapping up a phenomenal couple of weeks on the hardwood, securing two critical league victories out of two. The squad put on a masterclass in teamwork, defensive grit, and clinical shooting to edge out top-tier regional opposition and keep their momentum surging forward for the season ahead. Victory Over Ballyhaunis and Rice College The impressive run began with a commanding performance against a tough Ballyhaunis side, where the lads set the tempo early and refused to let up. They backed that up immediately in their next fixture against Rice College. In a high-stakes, intense encounter, Davitt College showed tremendous composure under pressure to close out the game and lock in two massive wins from two starts. Record-Breaking Display from Craig Siose While the victories were a complete team effort, the game against Rice College featured a truly extraordinary individual performance. Under-17 International star Craig Siose put on an absolute clinic, putting the team on his back by dropping an unbelievable 39 points of the school’s 63-point total. It was a flawless, elite-level display of shooting and leadership that left spectators and opposition alike in awe. With the squad firing on all cylinders and international quality leading the charge, this U19 team is shaping up to be a serious force this season. 🏊 Swim Team • Connacht Championships Excellence Dominating the Provincial Lanes: Swim Team Shines at Connacht Championships 9 November 2025 The winter sports season is officially in full swing, and the Davitt College Swim Team has thrown down a massive marker on the provincial stage. This past weekend, our elite school swim panel traveled to Longford to fly the flag at the highly anticipated Connacht Schools Swimming Championships. Facing off against the fastest junior and intermediate lane swimmers in the West, our squad delivered a fantastic series of technical performances under immense competitive pressure. A Tradition of Excellence in the Lanes This weekend’s superb showing comes as no surprise to anyone tracking the growth of swimming within our sports department. It builds directly on the brilliant foundations laid back on 16 January 2024, when our core team of Alannah Curley, Saoirse McCaffrey, Clara Kelly, Charlotte Langan, and Ruby Rennick put on a masterclass of diving form, turn mechanics, and sprint pacing at the same Longford venue. That stellar momentum carried straight into the Connacht Schools Swimming Gala on 3 February 2025, where the panel—joined by Jack Rice—pushed their personal best times even lower, proving that consistent hours in the pool yield elite results. Pride in the Crest Competing at this level demands a grueling training schedule, flawless breathing technique, and incredible explosive power off the blocks. Every single member of the squad represented the school crest with absolute distinction, showing great camaraderie and elite competitive focus throughout the weekend gala. The management, staff, and student body of Davitt College extend a massive congratulations to the entire swim panel on another highly successful provincial campaign. 🏐 Senior Volleyball • Season Opener Senior Boys Secure Athenry Win in Season Opener 14 October 2026 Our Senior Boys Volleyball team faced a top-tier test today as they hosted a competitive tri-match against Roscommon CC and Coláiste an Eachréidh (Athenry). The lads opened their account with a stellar tactical display, executing their offensive sets beautifully to log a comprehensive win over Athenry. While they ultimately fell short against a highly physical Roscommon squad, the performance sets a brilliant foundation. The panel is already back in training ahead of the next round of fixtures after the midterm break. ×

💛 Community Wellbeing • World Mental Health Day Celebrating World Mental Health Day in the Community 10 October 2026 To mark World Mental Health Day, a group of our wonderful Davitt College students were absolutely delighted to be invited to a special community coffee morning! Hosted by the fantastic teams at the Mayo Mental Health Association and Mindspace Castlebar, the event took place in the welcoming and cozy surroundings of Brú Coffee Shop. ☕ It was a brilliant morning filled with warm drinks, great conversations, and most importantly, invaluable learning. Tying in perfectly with our SPHE modules on emotional wellbeing, our students gathered a wealth of practical information regarding the vital mental health supports and services available right here in County Mayo. 🧠🤝 Knowing how to access local support networks and breaking the stigma around mental health are huge parts of what we teach in the classroom, so bringing that learning out into the real world was truly inspiring. 🇪🇺 Erasmus+ • European Adventure Davitt College Students Embark on Erasmus Adventure in Brussels 8 October 2025 A group of 36 students and four teachers from Davitt College recently returned from a highly enriching Erasmus trip to Brussels, Belgium, where they immersed themselves in culture, education, and European institutions. 🌍 Broadening Horizons The four-day programme offered students a unique chance to broaden their horizons through both educational and cultural experiences. One of the major highlights of the trip was a visit to an international school, where students were able to observe classes and engage directly with their European peers. Our teachers also had the fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with their international colleagues, gaining fresh perspectives on global education. 🏛️ Exploring Cultural Treasures The group thoroughly explored Belgium’s cultural treasures. A guided city tour of Brussels introduced the students to the vibrant heart of Europe, taking in everything from its historic squares to its striking modern institutions. They also enjoyed a beautiful day trip to Bruges, discovering the medieval charm of the canals, cobblestone streets, and the rich heritage of the UNESCO World Heritage city. 🇪🇺 The European Parliament A central part of the Erasmus experience was a visit to the European Parliament. Students were given an in-depth tour of the Parliament buildings, learning exactly how European democracy functions in practice. The visit was made even more memorable by a special meeting with Mr. Olaf Gill, who generously shared his expertise on European institutions and communication. His insights truly inspired the group to think more deeply about the importance of international cooperation and active citizenship. This Erasmus trip proved to be an unforgettable experience for both students and teachers alike. It not only strengthened their understanding of European culture and politics but also fostered wonderful new friendships and a true sense of belonging to a wider international community. ✨ ×

Craig Neir is one of our standout underage talents, and this national recognition is a thoroughly deserved honor for a player who continuously sets a standard for work ethic and skill on the court. Everyone at the club and across the entire school community is absolutely thrilled for Craig Neir and his family on this incredible achievement. A High-Performance Pathway to the European Stage The Basketball Ireland Academy serves as a vital developmental bridge for elite young players as they transition between the U16 and U18 international brackets. The program provides a high-performance environment specifically designed to help players develop physically while receiving top-tier coaching. Crucially, the academy keeps the country’s top prospects firmly engaged with the Basketball Ireland Player Pathway. It has a proven track record of success, with numerous graduates in recent years going on to pull on the green jersey and represent Ireland at the FIBA U18 European Championships. 🎓 Transition Year • Awards & Graduation A Milestone Year: Davitt College Celebrates Transition Year Graduation and Achievements 2025 26 May 2025 On Monday 26th May 2025, Davitt College hosted its annual Transition Year Awards Event, celebrating a year defined by personal growth, community engagement, and holistic development. Students were commended for their active involvement throughout the 2024–2025 academic year across academic modules, sports, and school life. The TY program at Davitt College continues to provide a flexible environment where students build self-confidence, develop core academic competencies, and foster key life skills such as critical thinking, social awareness, and entrepreneurship. A key highlight of this year’s ceremony was the celebration of Davitt College’s selection as a pilot school for a new Road Safety Module, delivered in association with the Road Safety Authority (RSA). The event featured inspiring addresses from RSA guest speakers Ms. Eilish McDonagh and Ms. Caroline McHale, who commended the students on their active citizenship and engagement with this vital initiative. The awards ceremony highlighted the depth of talent, teamwork, and leadership within the year group—qualities that will serve these students exceptionally well as they prepare to enter Senior Cycle.
