Our 5th Year German classes rolled out the ultimate Céad Míle Fáilte this week, reuniting with their long-awaited exchange partners from Realschule Höchstadt in an atmosphere buzzing with excitement and energy. While Davitt College students proudly donned their school uniforms, our German visitors turned heads in style wearing their brand-new, custom-designed partnership hoodies—created specifically to mark this incredible milestone. 🤝 Community & Charity • Transition Year Action TY Leadership in Action: Davitt College Presents €500 Cheque to St. Vincent de Paul 11 March 2026 Following the incredible success of our recent winter fundraising campaigns, we were absolutely delighted to welcome Helen Ralph from SVP, along with volunteers Mick and Tadhg, to the Davitt College campus today. They met face-to-face with our fantastic Transition Year SVP team, the driving force behind three major community initiatives this term: the Beanie Winter Appeal, the Christmas Food Appeal, and our recent Bake Sale. Local Impact Direct Support for Local Families During her visit, Helen spoke with students about the vital day-to-day work SVP carries out, detailing exactly how these funds provide direct, essential support right here in our local community. Total Raised €500 Presented to SVP Team An achievement like this is only possible with a massive collective effort. We want to extend a huge thank you to all of our incredible staff, parents, and students who bought beanies, baked treats, donated food, and supported these campaigns. 🌸 Religious Education • International Women’s Day 2026 International Women’s Day: Pausing to Reflect and Celebrate 9 March 2026 To mark International Women’s Day, our students took part in a series of thoughtful and creative workshops during their Religious Education classes to celebrate the immense impact women have on our lives and global society every day. Moving beyond historical theory, students spent time reflecting deeply on the specific women who inspire them. This led to a highly engaging workshop where classes designed custom posters celebrating remarkable female figures from past and present, alongside the vital women in their own personal lives—including mothers, grandmothers, teachers, and mentors. It provided a wonderful, relaxed opportunity for our young people to pause, reflect, and show genuine appreciation for the positive leadership and care that surrounds them daily. ×

The service provides a vital space of solace for parents and families experiencing bereavement through pregnancy loss or the tragic death of a child. Our five student representatives stepped into this sensitive civic role with immense emotional maturity. By leading with quiet grace and deep compassion, they beautifully exemplified the core values of our department, supporting our wider community during their moments of greatest need. ×

🎵 Creative Arts & Politics • Transition Year Workshop ATU Sligo Politics Chair Dr Eamonn Furey Sparking Creative Songwriting Action with TY Teams! 23 February 2026 Our Transition Year spaces were absolutely buzzing with energy this week as we welcomed the brilliant Dr Eamonn Furey, Programme Chair of Sociology and Politics at ATU Sligo, to lead a fantastic, high-octane creative arts workshop! 🌟 As a proud Creative School, we love pushing the boundaries of traditional learning. Dr Furey guided our students through a fascinating deep-dive into music as a political art form, tracking how iconic tracks, rhythms, and poetry have historically been used to champion human rights, challenge systemic inequalities, and give a powerful voice to local communities on the global stage. Inspired by these legendary protest anthems, our students stepped up to the microphone themselves! Working in collaborative production teams, they brainstormed, drafted, and boldly performed their own original political lyrics—tackling modern global issues with incredible maturity, sharp wit, and rhythm. It was an invigorating showcase of musical creativity, confidence, and raw talent. Huge thanks to Dr Furey for inspiring our next generation of creative changemakers! 👏 ×

🏐 Junior Volleyball • Home Blitz Triumph Junior Girls Excel in Thrilling Home Volleyball Blitz 28 January 2026 The sports hall was buzzing today as Davitt College played host to an outstanding school volleyball blitz, welcoming panels from Summerhill College and Coláiste Iascaigh (Easkey). Our Junior Girls Volleyball team put in a phenomenal performance across both fixtures. While they narrowly lost out to a sharp Easkey side in a 2–1 set thriller, the girls bounced back immediately, executing a commanding 2–0 victory over Summerhill. The entire panel showed superb technical growth, teamwork, and determination from the first serve to the final whistle. ×

🏐 1st Year GAA • Castlebar Mitchels Blitz 1st Year GAA Blitz: Fantastic Day of Football at Castlebar Mitchels Astro 27 January 2026 Last Tuesday, our newest players took to the field for a brilliant day of action as we hosted a 1st Year GAA 11-a-side Blitz on the fantastic astro pitches at Castlebar Mitchels GAA. The tournament brought together a highly competitive mix of talent, with six secondary schools participating in the event: ✅ Davitt College ✅ St. Patrick’s College, Foxford ✅ Scoil Muire agus Pádraig, Swinford ✅ Coláiste Muire, Tourmakeady ✅ Gairmscoil Chormaic, Lacken Cross ✅ Coláiste Pobail Acla, Achill The focus of the blitz was entirely on player development, skill refinement, and game time, ensuring plenty of high-quality football was played by everyone who toggled out. Special Thanks We would like to extend a huge thank you to Martin Costello, Mayo GAA Games Development Officer (GDO), for his invaluable help in coordinating and running the fixtures throughout the day. Finally, a massive thank you to all the visiting players, teachers, and schools who traveled to compete and made the blitz such an overwhelming success. 🏃‍♂️ Cross Country • North Connacht Excellence The Forest Park Standard: Elite Sportsmanship at Lough Key 15 January 2026 While individual medals and podium finishes are always fantastic milestones, true sporting excellence is measured by character, team culture, and the way athletes represent their school crest. Today, our distance running panel traveled to the beautiful trails of Lough Key Forest Park for the highly anticipated North Connacht Cross Country Competition. Following on from our immensely proud campaign on the exact same turf on January 16th, 2025, today’s outing proved that Davitt College has established a stellar tradition of excellence in Roscommon. Setting the Bar for Character and Camaraderie Against a massive field of elite young runners from across the region, our students delivered an incredible, high-energy sporting performance over the challenging winter course. Team Culture on the Trails: 🏃‍♂️ Cheering on teammate sprints at the home straight. ⛺ Helping out actively at the team camp setup. 🤝 Welcoming finishing competitors across the line with true respect. Cross country running is a grueling, solitary discipline once you step past the starting line, but today our athletes proved they run as one collective unit. The entire management and staff of Davitt College want to extend a massive well done to each and every student who took part today. Your athletic grit on the mud was brilliant, but your integrity and impeccable sportsmanship are what made you a true credit to yourselves, your families, and your school. ×
