🏐 Senior Football • New Sponsor & Championship Drive New Sponsor & Championship Drive: Senior Footballers Set for Historic Run 22 October 2025 We would like to extend a massive thank you to Seamus O’Brien & Sons Castlebar for their incredibly generous sponsorship towards our Senior GAA team. Local backing like this is the backbone of our sports programmes, and we are deeply grateful for their support as our players step up to the highest level of schools football. Pictured below are members of our senior panel displaying the new gear. It comes at a thrilling time for the squad, who have earned every bit of their success on the pitch this season. The Road Ahead: Flanagan Cup & Connacht Championship The lads have put in an immense shift to book their place in the Flanagan Cup Final, which will take place immediately after the Midterm break. The hard work doesn’t stop there. Win or lose, the squad will carry this momentum directly onto the provincial stage when their Connacht Championship campaign officially throws in this coming November. It is going to be a massive few weeks of football for the school. Make sure to get out, wear the colours, and get behind the senior panel as they hunt for silverware! ×

🏐 Senior Volleyball • Season Opener Senior Boys Secure Athenry Win in Season Opener 14 October 2026 Our Senior Boys Volleyball team faced a top-tier test today as they hosted a competitive tri-match against Roscommon CC and Coláiste an Eachréidh (Athenry). The lads opened their account with a stellar tactical display, executing their offensive sets beautifully to log a comprehensive win over Athenry. While they ultimately fell short against a highly physical Roscommon squad, the performance sets a brilliant foundation. The panel is already back in training ahead of the next round of fixtures after the midterm break. ×

💛 Community Wellbeing • World Mental Health Day Celebrating World Mental Health Day in the Community 10 October 2026 To mark World Mental Health Day, a group of our wonderful Davitt College students were absolutely delighted to be invited to a special community coffee morning! Hosted by the fantastic teams at the Mayo Mental Health Association and Mindspace Castlebar, the event took place in the welcoming and cozy surroundings of Brú Coffee Shop. ☕ It was a brilliant morning filled with warm drinks, great conversations, and most importantly, invaluable learning. Tying in perfectly with our SPHE modules on emotional wellbeing, our students gathered a wealth of practical information regarding the vital mental health supports and services available right here in County Mayo. 🧠🤝 Knowing how to access local support networks and breaking the stigma around mental health are huge parts of what we teach in the classroom, so bringing that learning out into the real world was truly inspiring. 🇪🇺 Erasmus+ • European Adventure Davitt College Students Embark on Erasmus Adventure in Brussels 8 October 2025 A group of 36 students and four teachers from Davitt College recently returned from a highly enriching Erasmus trip to Brussels, Belgium, where they immersed themselves in culture, education, and European institutions. 🌍 Broadening Horizons The four-day programme offered students a unique chance to broaden their horizons through both educational and cultural experiences. One of the major highlights of the trip was a visit to an international school, where students were able to observe classes and engage directly with their European peers. Our teachers also had the fantastic opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with their international colleagues, gaining fresh perspectives on global education. 🏛️ Exploring Cultural Treasures The group thoroughly explored Belgium’s cultural treasures. A guided city tour of Brussels introduced the students to the vibrant heart of Europe, taking in everything from its historic squares to its striking modern institutions. They also enjoyed a beautiful day trip to Bruges, discovering the medieval charm of the canals, cobblestone streets, and the rich heritage of the UNESCO World Heritage city. 🇪🇺 The European Parliament A central part of the Erasmus experience was a visit to the European Parliament. Students were given an in-depth tour of the Parliament buildings, learning exactly how European democracy functions in practice. The visit was made even more memorable by a special meeting with Mr. Olaf Gill, who generously shared his expertise on European institutions and communication. His insights truly inspired the group to think more deeply about the importance of international cooperation and active citizenship. This Erasmus trip proved to be an unforgettable experience for both students and teachers alike. It not only strengthened their understanding of European culture and politics but also fostered wonderful new friendships and a true sense of belonging to a wider international community. ✨ ×

🏀 School Sport • Basketball Ireland Academy Selection International Selection: Craig Neir Sosas-Siose Named to Basketball Ireland U17 Academy 2 October 2025 A massive congratulations to our very own Craig Neir Sosas-Siose, who has been officially selected for the prestigious Basketball Ireland U17 Academy Programme. Craig Neir is one of our standout underage talents, and this national recognition is a thoroughly deserved honor for a player who continuously sets a standard for work ethic and skill on the court. Everyone at the club and across the entire school community is absolutely thrilled for Craig Neir and his family on this incredible achievement. A High-Performance Pathway to the European Stage The Basketball Ireland Academy serves as a vital developmental bridge for elite young players as they transition between the U16 and U18 international brackets. The program provides a high-performance environment specifically designed to help players develop physically while receiving top-tier coaching. Crucially, the academy keeps the country’s top prospects firmly engaged with the Basketball Ireland Player Pathway. It has a proven track record of success, with numerous graduates in recent years going on to pull on the green jersey and represent Ireland at the FIBA U18 European Championships. Students were commended for their active involvement throughout the 2024–2025 academic year across academic modules, sports, and school life. The TY program at Davitt College continues to provide a flexible environment where students build self-confidence, develop core academic competencies, and foster key life skills such as critical thinking, social awareness, and entrepreneurship. A key highlight of this year’s ceremony was the celebration of Davitt College’s selection as a pilot school for a new Road Safety Module, delivered in association with the Road Safety Authority (RSA). The event featured inspiring addresses from RSA guest speakers Ms. Eilish McDonagh and Ms. Caroline McHale, who commended the students on their active citizenship and engagement with this vital initiative. The awards ceremony highlighted the depth of talent, teamwork, and leadership within the year group—qualities that will serve these students exceptionally well as they prepare to enter Senior Cycle. 🚲 Outdoor Education • Physical Wellbeing Outdoor Education: Cycling the Turlough Greenway 10 April 2025 Taking full advantage of the glorious sunshine, our First Year and Transition Year students recently took to the Turlough Greenway for a brilliant day out as part of our outdoor PE programme. Using our own fleet of Davitt College bicycles—perfectly timed for our National Bike Week activities—the students traded the sports hall for the open road. It was a fantastic way to build up some cardiovascular fitness while enjoying the fresh air and connecting with the beautiful local scenery. Of course, no proper Greenway excursion is complete without a well-deserved treat, and the day was brilliantly capped off with a stop for ice creams! A massive well done to everyone involved for bringing such great energy and making it such a fun, memorable trip. 🍦🚴‍♂️✨ ×

⚽ Community Sport • Transition Year Leadership And That’s a Wrap! TY Volunteers Complete Fantastic FAI Primary 5s Season 8 April 2025 After months of incredible action, our students have officially wrapped up their time volunteering at the FAI Mayo Primary 5s competition at Umbro Park, Milebush. It has been an amazing few months on the sidelines and pitches for our Transition Years, who braved the elements, managed logistics, and refereed hundreds of games to support grassroots primary school football in the region. ⚽ On to the Connacht Finals A massive congratulations goes out to every single primary school that traveled to Milebush and competed with such great sporting spirit throughout the tournament stages. The standard of football this year was exceptional, and we want to wish the very best of luck to all the qualifying Mayo teams who have earned their spots and are now moving forward to represent the county in the upcoming Connacht Finals! 🤝 Proud of Our Leaders A huge thank you to our students for their dedication, reliability, and leadership over the last few months. Programs of this scale simply cannot run without community volunteer support, and our TYs represented the school brilliantly every single week.
