🌟 Sports Star Award • Camogie Excellence Hannah Hauttmann Named Connacht Telegraph Young Sports Star of the Year 7 March 2025 We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate Davitt College student Hannah Hauttmann, who has been officially named the Connacht Telegraph Young Sports Star of the Year for Camogie! Gala Ceremony at Breaffy House Resort Celebrates Camogie Success This prestigious award recognizes the absolute dedication, elite skill, and immense hard work Hannah brings to the sport. Pictured at the gala ceremony in the Breaffy House Resort, Hannah received her Mayo Young Sports Stars of the Year Award from Niamh O’Connell of Specsavers Castlebar, the proud sponsors of the category. Whether she is driving performance on the school pitch, lining out for Castlebar Mitchels Camogie Club, or representing Official Mayo Camogie at county level, Hannah acts as a phenomenal role model for sportsmanship and commitment. TY Leaders Shine at FAI Schools Primary 5s Regional Qualifiers

⚽ Youth Sport • TY Leadership & Officiating TY Leaders Shine at FAI Schools Primary 5s Regional Qualifiers 14 February 2025 Fourteen of our fantastic Transition Year students had a highly productive, busy, and thoroughly enjoyable week assisting at the FAI Mayo 5-a-side Primary Schools competition. It was another monumental week for the tournament, which saw over 750 energetic primary school students competing across the intense West and South Mayo Regional Qualifiers. Our TY students took a central role on the sidelines and pitches, ensuring matches ran smoothly, officiating fixtures, and supporting the young players throughout the days. 🤝 Community & Club Partnership A tournament of this massive scale succeeds entirely on collaboration, and a huge well-done goes to all the participating players, dedicated teachers, and schools who traveled to make the qualifiers so competitive. Special thanks are extended to the TY cohorts from Davitt College, Sacred Heart School, and Rice College for their brilliant leadership and peer support. We also want to give a massive shout-out to Westport United FC and the Mayo Football League for acting as superb, welcoming hosts and providing top-tier facilities for the games. 📅 What’s Next? The regional action isn’t slowing down! The tournament shifts focus immediately after the weekend, moving directly on to the East Mayo Regional Qualifiers, which kick off from Tuesday onward. Mixed Fortunes in Easkey Clash: First-Years Secure Season Open Win

🏀 School Sport • Boys Basketball Mixed Fortunes in Easkey Clash: First-Years Secure Season Open Win 13 February 2025 It was a day of high drama and mixed results on the hardwood as Davitt College went head-to-head with Coláiste Iascaigh. The First-Year boys kicked off their campaign in spectacular fashion, grinding out a hard-fought 19-13 victory to claim their first win of the season. The squad showed brilliant defensive structure and composure under the rim to close out the game and get their league run off to the perfect start. Second-Years Fall Just Short in Nail-Biter Immediately after, the Second-Year boys took to the court in what turned out to be an absolute thriller. In a classic, end-to-end battle where every single possession counted, the Davitt side unfortunately ended up on the wrong side of a narrow 19-23 scoreline. Despite the sting of the close defeat, the performance showcased a massive work ethic and plenty of tactical promise for the upcoming fixtures. A huge thank you to Mr. McTavish and Mr. O’Connor for coaching the boys and driving the basketball program forward! 🏀🔴🟢👏 ×

🤖 STEM Innovation • Robotics & Engineering Robotics Workshop Sparks New After-School Engineering Initiatives 21 October 2024 A sincere thank you to Mr Hassan Dabbagh from ATU MakerSpace and the ATU Innovation Hubs team for facilitating an outstanding Robotics Workshop with a group of our enthusiastic Junior Cycle students this week. The interactive, hands-on session focused on mechatronics, circuit assembly, and basic automation logic, giving students an authentic taste of real-world design engineering. Armed with their new skills, our students and department mentors Mr Moylette and Mr Newcombe are officially ready to kick off the new Davitt College Robotics Club, which will begin running immediately after the midterm break. Both panels showed great competitive spirit and teamwork on the court as they continue to build their momentum and sharpness in the regional league structure. ⛳ Transition Year Sport • Golf Academy Swing Academy: TYs Take to the Driving Range 3 October 2024 Our Transition Year sports blocks went mobile this week with dedicated golf tuition sessions out at the Castlebar Driving Range. Students picked up foundational tips on grip, posture, and swing mechanics. The session offered plenty of fun, great camaraderie, and saw a few hidden talents emerging with some seriously clean strikes down the range as students tried their hand at matching the pros. 🏃 Athletics Ireland • Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals Elite Form: Niamh Moran Shines at Connacht Finals in Loughrea 22 February 2024 • Bushfield, Loughrea The 2024 cross country season has officially hit its peak flight, and our distance athletes have once again proven themselves against the very best in the West. Following a superb collective outing at the regional qualifiers in Ballymote on January 30th—where the entire school panel put in a fantastic shift—our qualifying athletes travelled to Bushfield in Loughrea yesterday for a highly anticipated Connacht Schools Cross Country Finals. Running Up a Grade: An Outstanding Top-10 Finish The standout performance of the championship came from the exceptionally talented Niamh Moran. Representing Davitt College and competing alongside her clubmates at Castlebar AC, Niamh faced an immense athletic challenge by running out of her age grade to test herself against an older, highly experienced field. ⏱️ 8th Place in Connacht Showing mature tactical pacing, incredible lung capacity, and absolute grit on the heavy Bushfield turf, Niamh delivered an unbelievable race to cross the line inside the top 10. 🚀 Running Out of Grade Stepping up in both distance and competition level against an older field, this top-10 provincial result is a massive statement of her elite dedication and growth. A Credit to the School The endurance and physical toughness required to compete at this level are immense. The entire sports department and school community at Davitt College extend our huge congratulations to Niamh on a fantastic race, and well done to everyone who took part across the entire winter campaign.
