💡 Sustainability • Classroom Initiatives 1st Year Energy Saving Posters 21 May 2021 • Geography Department Our 1B and 1F classes have been incredibly busy learning about energy conservation and sustainability in their Geography lessons recently. To help spread awareness throughout the school community, the students channeled their creativity into designing a series of vibrant, educational posters on this very valuable topic. Their work highlights excellent practical tips for saving energy both at home and at school, proving that small changes can make a massive difference. 🍪 Wellbeing Initiative • Culinary Masterclass Cooking Demonstration: Easter Gingerbread Men with Siobhan Donnelly 24 February 2021 • Davitt College & School Completion Programme As part of our ongoing Wellbeing Initiative, Davitt College and the School Completion Programme were delighted to welcome Siobhan Donnelly of “Siobhan’s Cakes and Bakes” to the school to deliver a series of engaging cookery demonstrations. Taking place on Wednesday afternoons, these interactive sessions are designed to promote student wellbeing, practical life skills, and nutritional awareness through expert culinary showcases. For her very first demonstration, Siobhan guided our audience through the step-by-step process of baking and beautifully decorating festive Easter Gingerbread Men. Those in attendance thoroughly enjoyed learning the secrets to perfect dough consistency, spice balance, and detailed icing techniques. A sincere thank you to Siobhan Donnelly and the School Completion Programme for facilitating this wonderful wellness initiative. 🎄 Charity Fundraiser • Community Spirit Christmas Jumper Day Raises €724.94 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice 28 January 2021 • Davitt College Community Christmas is now a distant memory for us all! But we wanted to spread some of the festive cheer that was in the air towards the end of our last term with a look back at our fantastic Christmas Jumper Day. Our students and staff fully embraced the festive spirit, lighting up the school corridors in an incredible array of colorful, creative, and wonderfully festive knitwear. More importantly, the event was a massive fundraising success. Thanks to the outstanding generosity of our school community, a grand total of €724.94 was raised for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice. A sincere thank you to everyone who participated, brought in festive cheer, and donated to this incredibly worthy cause. These awards are strictly reserved for incoming first-year students who achieve exceptional excellence in their Leaving Certificate results. Cathal’s academic dedication and brilliant performance have earned him this well-deserved national recognition. He is currently pursuing a Level 8 Honor’s Degree in Theoretical Physics at Trinity College Dublin. The entire community at Davitt College is incredibly proud of Cathal’s landmark success. 🎄 Student Showcase • English & Wood Technology First Year Festive Showcase: Christmas Cards & Wood Technology Creations Davitt College First Year Showcase As the winter term drew to a close, our multi-talented First Year students were incredibly busy channeling their festive creativity across different departments to craft beautiful seasonal gifts for their family and friends. ✍️ Seasonal Poetry & Christmas Cards in 1E English In the English department, students in class 1E worked exceptionally hard to compose imaginative Christmas poems and design beautifully styled seasonal greeting cards. The students combined their developing literacy skills with artistic flair to create thoughtful, heartfelt messages for their loved ones, spreading plenty of holiday cheer through the written word. 🪚 Handcrafted Decorations in Wood Technology Meanwhile, the practical rooms were buzzing with activity as First Year students put their design and manufacturing skills to the test in Wood Technology. Over several weeks, the students carefully planned, cut, and sanded beautiful wooden Christmas decorations. These custom pieces make for wonderful, lasting keepsakes that will undoubtedly hold pride of place on Christmas trees at home for years to come. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, craftsmanship, and imagination demonstrated by our First Years across both disciplines! 🎄✨🎅🪵🎁👏 ×
