■ The Story
Set in Indian Territory at the turn of the century, Oklahoma! centers on the high-spirited romance between cowboy Curly McLain and farm girl Laurey Williams. Tensions rise as the ominous farmhand Jud Fry vies for Laurey's affections, leading to a high-stakes box social auction. Meanwhile, Ado Annie navigates her comedic love triangle between cowboy Will Parker and travelling peddler Ali Hakim as farmers and cowboys learn to live in harmony.
■ The Production
Staged in 1999 as Davitt College's 17th annual musical production, Oklahoma! represented one of the most ambitious challenges in the school's theatrical history. Produced for a second consecutive year by staff member Tommy O'Malley following 1998's success with Guys and Dolls, the show featured musical direction by Phil Duffy, choreography by Elaine Mortimer, and extensive Transition Year involvement across every aspect of staging.
