Little Shop of Horrors
The 1996 Davitt College Production
Feed Your Need for Entertainment
Relive Davitt College's legendary 1995 staging of the cult B-movie rock musical in the school hall.
■ The Story
Set on New York's downtrodden Skid Row, Little Shop of Horrors follows meek florist assistant Seymour Krelborn, who discovers a strange and interesting plant during a total solar eclipse. Naming it "Audrey II" after his secret crush, Seymour soon learns the carnivorous plant has an appetite for human blood and promises him fame, fortune, and love – at a terrifyingly hilarious cost.
■ The Production
Mounting a full-scale musical in just six intense weeks instead of the usual three months, this Transition Year project was led by producer Michael Brett. Featuring custom set builds, colourful 1950s costumes, a mechanical Audrey II plant constructed by Peter Casby's team, and musical direction by Phil Duffy, the show brought the vibrant energy of Skid Row directly to the Davitt College stage.
Accelerated Rehearsals
Prepared in half the usual timeframe through double the dedication from cast and crew.
Show of the Year
Staging a second major musical production for the Castlebar community in a single year.
Cast & Chorus
Lead principals supported by a vibrant 33-girl and 14-boy student chorus ensemble.
Rock Band
Directed by Phil Duffy
Featuring a live 4-piece rock band and sound controls managed by Frankie McDonald.
Musical Numbers
Relive the energy and rhythm of Alan Menken & Howard Ashman's iconic rock and doo-wop score that echoed through the school hall.
