The 1997 Davitt College Production

Davitt College Stage Productions

ALL THAT JAZZ

In February 1997, the glittering, high-stakes world of 1920s Broadway took over Davitt College with a dazzling production of the hit musical Chicago.

The Story

First staged on Broadway in 1973, Chicago brought a thrilling blend of vaudeville, crime, and sensational jazz to the school stage. Following the scandalous exploits of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly in the county jail, the production delivered sharp satire, dazzling choreography, and iconic numbers like "All That Jazz" and "Razzle Dazzle".

The Production

Led by producer Michael Brett and musical director Phil Duffy, with stage direction and dialogue coaching by Ruth Phelan, the 1997 show exemplified the core of the Transition Year project. Students managed all facets of production—from art sets designed by Agnes Nyland and Breda Burns to props, publicity, and programme compilation.
