Relive Davitt College's 2005 production of Tin Pan Ali – marking the first time this musical was ever staged in the West of Ireland.
■ The Story
As Princess Scheherazade tells the 1,001st tale of the Arabian Nights to the Sultan, the classic story of Ali Baba and the forty thieves is transported out of the desert and straight into 1930s Chicago. It follows Ali Baba – a humble tap-dancing street-sweeper – trying to win the heart of servant girl Morgiana, support his wacky family, and navigate chaos when he accidentally stumbles upon a treasure-laden mob warehouse.
■ The Production
Staged in March 2005 at Davitt College, Castlebar, this production marked a fresh era. Following Tommy O'Malley's well-deserved break after a decade at the helm, a new generation production team of four young staff members – Aidan Brogan, Deirdre Gibbons, Edel Mullin, and David Nevin – stepped up, working alongside veteran Musical Director Phil Duffy to deliver a massive theatrical success.
